The Astronomical Society is a space for anybody interested in any area of space and astronomy. Whether you're fascinated by the history of human space exploration, the origins of the universe, the search for extraterrestrial life, or enjoy admiring the night sky, there is a place for you here. We do not require you to have any experience to join. Everyone is welcomed alike, and this society will give you a unique opportunity to develop your interest and share ideas alongside other astronomers. We are passionate about unravelling the mysteries of the universe, finding our place among the stars, and admiring the beauty in between. From observing the night sky to discussing the latest discoveries in space science, we're here to make astronomy accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for everyone.

About Us

The Astronomical Society brings together students from different backgrounds and levels of experience. No matter who you are or what you study, we are about learning and exploring astronomy together. Our activities range from relaxed social evenings and astronomy discussions to practical observing, astrophotography, guest talks, and trips to places of astronomical interest. We're also a new and growing society, meaning our members have the opportunity to help shape what we become. As long as you are interested in space, you are welcome here.

Key Information

Fortnightly, we meet on Wednesdays at 6pm-8pm in Room 201 in the Student Life Building. Our meetings provide an opportunity to learn something new, discuss what's happening in the world of astronomy, plan upcoming activities and, most importantly, spend time with fellow space enthusiasts. Our close links with other astronomical socities in the local area provide endless opportunities for students to get involved. We aim to host frequent events for stargazing, trips to sites of astronomical interest, and host guest speakers from the astronomical field. And of course, our socials balance it all out to create a relaxed yet engaging atmosphere. We also aim to increase our collaboration alongside the Liverpool Astronomical Society.

Our programme and event details can change throughout the year, so make sure you stay up to date by following us on Instagram. We'll use our social media to announce upcoming events, meeting information, trips, opportunities, and other society news: @ljmu.astrosoc

Why Us?

Joining the Astronomical Society guarantees a place for you to explore the wider world of astronomy for yourself. From astrophysics to planetary science, space exploration, astronomy history, and astrophotography, there's always something new to discover. Our members can contribute ideas, organise events, suggest activities, help with trips, introduce new topics, and ultimately shape the society's future.
