It’s been two weeks since the end of Freshers and we’re already missing it. We’ve had an amazing few weeks welcoming new students into Liverpool with open arms, and welcoming back students onto campus. We want to thank everyone who made Freshers possible, to those who signed up and came to our events, joined sports, societies, or communities, and got stuck in. Ensuring your first few weeks at LJMU was packed with fun, exciting yet insightful experiences that will set the tone for the rest of your time at university.

Freshers

Over the course of move-in weeks, we handed out a staggering 4,500 accommodation boxes at over 15 different accommodation providers to our Freshers. We had so much fun meeting you all, telling you about who we are and what we do. We wanted to continue to freebie-frenzy further, so over 7,000 welcome bags were picked up at our JMSU reception by students. We hope you enjoy your LJMU x JMSU merchandise!

Events

Nearly 50 Freshers events were produced and brought to you by JMSU. These events were scheduled to make you feel welcome in our wonderful city, to help you make new and long-lasting friends and to encourage you to try new things as you enter a new chapter of your life. From puppy yoga to outdoor cinemas, go karting to UV paint workshops, craft sessions to free student lunches. Over 20 events were sold out during the course of September, with thousands of students in attendance overall. Not to mention over 5,500 attending Freshers fair alone. Thank you!

Student groups

We wanted to ensure that, after your initial introductions to your accommodation and courses, you had the right facilities and spaces to continue your friendships further. That’s why we offer over 100 sports, societies, and community groups so you can continue to make friends and try out new hobbies. So far, we have had over 2,137 Society and Sports Team new memberships, 111 Volunteers signed up and almost 100 new Student Communities members. We've also had lots of new student groups created since the beginning of Freshers, such as the K-pop society, LJMU survivors, Women's Lacrosse and the Arm Wrestling Society to name a few. Student representation is also really important to us, and we're so glad to say that we've had over 200 students register as Student Reps for their school or course.

We are so pleased with student reponse to JMSU, as well as from the university and wider community. We hope to see you all soon during October and beyond for more events, activities, and campaigns.
