The Literature Society is a vibrant, inclusive community that brings together students from all academic backgrounds who share a passion for books, storytelling, creative writing, theatre, and everything related to the world of literature. It’s a welcoming space designed not only for literary enthusiasts but also for anyone curious about exploring the written and performed arts in a friendly, supportive environment.

About Us

Welcome to the Literature Society — a student-led academic society founded by students from a variety of degrees including Literature and Creative Writing. Our society is open to all LJMU students, regardless of your course, who have an interest in books, writing, theatre, film adaptations, non-fiction, and the many fascinating forms of storytelling. We aim to create a safe, inclusive, and creative space where members can share their love for literature and creativity without pressure or judgment. Beyond celebrating classic and contemporary works, we also champion inclusivity by supporting non-drinking events and encouraging conversations about the pressures students face around social drinking. Our society encourages diverse voices and creative expression, making it a welcoming hub for both casual readers and passionate creatives alike.

Key Information

The Literature Society meets regularly throughout the academic year, usually on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our weekly schedule rotates between engaging meetings in the Student Life Building (SLB), stimulating Book Club gatherings, lively pub quizzes, and fun socials. We host two sessions of each type every month to ensure plenty of opportunities for members to get involved. Dates and venues for events are shared in advance via our social media and monthly timetable posts. Additionally, we host special events such as magazine launch socials every two months—featuring a student-produced magazine showcasing creative works from the society. We’re also planning collaborations with external speakers and unique one-off events to broaden your literary experience. To stay up to date and connected, members are encouraged to follow us on socials and join our active WhatsApp group.

Why Us?
