The Irish Society is a vibrant and welcoming community that celebrates Irish and Northern
Irish culture, heritage, and friendship. It’s a place where students from all backgrounds can come together to share experiences, enjoy cultural traditions, and build lasting connections during their time at LJMU.
Welcome to the Irish Society — your gateway to all things Irish in Liverpool! Our society unites Irish and Northern Irish students, alongside anyone with an interest or connection to Irish culture. Throughout the academic year, we host a diverse and exciting programme of events designed to bring people together, celebrate Irish traditions, and create a warm, inclusive atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to meet new friends who share your roots, explore Irish music, dance, history, or simply enjoy a good craic, our society offers a ‘home away from home.’ We pride ourselves on fostering a community where every member feels connected and valued, no matter their background or experience.
We meet regularly throughout the academic year, with event dates, times, and locations announced via our Instagram page. Our schedule includes social gatherings, cultural celebrations, traditional music and dance nights, and other fun activities that showcase Irish heritage. Follow us on Instagram to stay updated on upcoming events and opportunities to get involved. We encourage all members to participate actively and bring their own ideas to help make our society even better.
Joining the Irish Society means becoming part of a friendly, supportive community that feels like a ‘home away from home.’ It’s a chance to meet fellow Irish and Northern Irish students, forge new friendships, and enjoy a vibrant social life filled with cultural pride and shared experiences. Whether you want to immerse yourself in Irish traditions, discover more about your heritage, or simply have fun with like-minded people, the Irish Society offers a welcoming space where you can belong, celebrate, and thrive while enjoying your university journey in Liverpool.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
