On Wednesday 30th November LJMU Cricket Club set out to walk from Southport and Birkdale CC to Liverpool Cricket Club in our last efforts for Movember.

It was an early start at Liverpool Central Station as we headed along the northern line, the boys fuelled up in Greggs early doors ahead of a very long day of walking. Some were dressed in cricket whites, some shorts - a bold call considering the Baltic weather. Our President leading the way in Wicketkeeping Pads and Gloves.

Off the train in Hillside, we headed over to Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club to start our long road back to town. We started along the beach after some following the leader in the sand dunes and some minor questions about the selected route – we had very little planned and relied on google maps, however, it added to the sense of adventure.

We came off the beach somewhere between Formby and Hightown where we met a path that led to our first pit stop – The Hightown Pub and Kitchen. They were incredibly friendly and helped us rate our poor attempts at mustaches. Tush Jashnani the winner and Adam Dunsmore the loser was the verdict. Once refreshed and warmed up we returned on our way with the next stop in our sights – Crosby.

Once more we had some fun following the leader in the dunes before a return to a path along the seafront on Blundellsands. Along the way, a few people asked what we were up to and were very complimentary of our efforts and offered some words of encouragement en route to our next stoppage and what turned out to be the final big one. Some fellas particularly enjoyed the stop for ice cream on the seafront, especially our first team skipper.

The scenery slowly disappeared along with the light as we followed the dock road into town. Some quick refreshment stops to keep us moving were needed, and some confused looks from drivers as they saw us dressed in cricket clothes and equipment.

Once we got to the Albert Dock, we were met by some reinforcements to finish the journey. We made our way along the waterfront and passed the busy M&S Arena awaiting a Ronan Keating performance. It was a great relief and an unexcepted one as we hit the marathon distance mark, however, we still had a mile to go.

The relief of the group to reach Liverpool Cricket Club, not only for the warmth but also for a nice refreshing drink was unmatched. We had achieved our club goal of £2,500. After a 12 + Hour Day, 9 of those spent walking, 44.25km covered, and a bald President we finished what was a fantastic day for the club and raised a total of £2,765 for Movember.
