The LJMU African-Caribbean Society (ACS) is a vibrant student-led community that champions culture, connection, and celebration. We create safe, welcoming spaces for students of African and Caribbean heritage — and allies — to come together, share experiences, and build lasting memories. From cultural appreciation to community support, ACS is more than just a society — it's a family away from home.
At LJMU ACS, our mission is to educate, empower, entertain, and engage. We proudly spotlight the rich, diverse traditions, histories, and futures of African and Caribbean communities. Whether through lively cultural nights, insightful panel discussions, or fun social events, everything we do is about representation and empowerment. Our society is a space where every member can feel seen, heard, and celebrated — no matter their background. By creating community through culture, we aim to inspire pride and connection among students across campus.
We host events at least once a month, ranging from chill meetups and movie nights to larger showcases, workshops, and collabs with other societies. To stay in the loop with dates, times, and venues, make sure you're following us on Instagram. You don’t need to be of African or Caribbean descent to join — everyone is welcome to learn, engage, and have fun!
LJMU ACS offers more than just events — we offer belonging. Whether you’re a fresher adjusting to uni life or a final-year student seeking deeper cultural connection, this is your space to find community, make friends, and grow in confidence. You’ll gain access to networking opportunities, personal development, and a support system of like-minded individuals who genuinely want to see each other succeed. It’s a chance to be part of something bigger — to celebrate who you are and where you come from, while also building your future.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
