Welcome to your Students' Union
We're John Moores Students' Union, or JMSU for short, and we come as part of your university package. Congratulations - you are now officially an LJMU student and a member of one of the top 5 Students' Unions in the North West - welcome!
We're here to help you get the most out of your time at university as we provide lots of opportunities for you to make friends, get stuck into your studies all whilst getting on-hand support along the way.
Opportunities
We will be here to welcome you with open arms during your move in period to help you settle in with our Freshers schedule. We have over 30 different activities, events, and opportunities for you to get involved in. Our schedule ranges from Raveminton, to Open Air cinemas, craft sessions to sports inductions, trips into the city and beyond, not to mention our heavily-anticipated Freshers Fair – where you can bag yourself some one-of-a-kind freebies, learn about JMSU and what we have to offer, and endless amount of Dominos Pizza. Oh, and did we mention it’s free?
The fun doesn't stop at Freshers, though - we have an amazing events programme that runs year-round, so you'll never run out of opportunities to try out new and exciting things.
Whether it’s a little or a lot, volunteering some of your time for a good cause is something we believe in. We have over 100 different volunteering opportunities for you to get experience and boost your CV that you can sign up for today.
Make friends
We also offer over 100 student groups for you to meet likeminded people, try out new hobbies or continue a skill you already know and love. From sports teams, society groups and student communities - find your people today.
Getting help and support
We hope that your university days are smooth sailing, but we’re here to lend a helping hand if they aren’t. We have our own confidential advice team that is completely independent from the uni, who can support with academic queries and can also offer sound signposting to the right university services. We’re all ears at our JMSU reception in the Student Life Building, and on social media too - so feel free to give us a DM if you need a query answering.
As your Students' Union, student voice is a big part of how we run things. We’re here to help make positive change for you and your fellow student at LJMU. We support student-led campaigns, challenge the university to make LJMU a better place and encourage you become student representatives.
Our organisation is led by our headstrong Student Officers, who are elected each year to represent an authentic student voice at JMSU. You can get to know your current Student Officers for 2023/24 Jasmine, Clodagh, Shaquita and Alexandria over on their Student Officer webpage.
