2022 has been a great year for Team LJMU; they celebrated many victories at the notorious Varsity games against rivals at UoL. The three days included many events, acitivites and celebrations of the teams. Other students came to support, cheering them on with LJMU foam fingers and banners. Special recognition goes to LJMU Men's Rugby Union for winning their match against Liverpool for the first time in 17 years! Despite the overall result, we are pleased to have had the opportunity to shown off our new Sports Centre next to the Student Life Building, and can't wait to be crowned champions in 2023!
Shortly after, our annual Sports Awards were held at Anfield Stadium. 500 students belonging to over 30 teams attended the celebration and we awarded their successes. To name a few; the Best New Sports Team was awarded to Cycling, Sports Club of the Year was handed to Tennis, BUCS Team of the Year went to Netball 1st Team and Special Recognition Award went to JMSU's very own VP Education Shaquita Corry for her efforts in Dance. It was a spectacular night and brought teammates together. you can check out the full list of winners and photography on our Sports Awards 2022 article.
As the 2022 academic year came to a close, there was no better way to end it with VP Activites Clodagh attending the annual BUCS conference in Warwick. It was a celebration of everything 'sports and activities' in higher education, and she got stuck into her role as VP. You can read more about what she got up to there in her 'Day in the Life of: VP Activities' article.
To top off a brilliant year of sport, we're delighted to announce that Team LJMU ranked in the top 50 BUCS teams in the UK, making LJMU one of the best places to compete with. We are so proud of our Team LJMU and all sports teams that make up our community of athletes.
