Book swap

Abbey and Amber took part in our Book Swap scheme that we did for the first time and they each wrote a paragraph on the books that they received. Both of them received books within a genre that they wouldn't usually read so this book swap allowed them to venture outside of their comfort zone and make a new friend in the process. It is amazing to see our members connecting over a shared love for books and both Abbey and Amber seemed to really enjoy the swap. Here is what they had to say on the books that they received:

*May contain spoilers on the books: Sharp Objects and This Time Next Year

Abbey

Romances haven't always been my cup of tea but reading 'This Time Next Year' by Sophie Cousens, and reading it around  Christmas time really changed my opinion on the genre! The story was just a really fun, heartwarming one to follow along and i felt that i could really easily connect to our main protagonist Minnie. It carried a lot of different themes that i really empathised with, including family, romance, independence and friendship and i found myself being happy for all of the characters whenever they found their happiness. Overall the book was a lovely, light read and i would definitely recommend holding on to it to read around the holiday season!

The book swap was a brilliant way to connect with new people and try a new book genre that i wouldn't usually go for. I have gained a new love for romance novels and have also made a new friends thanks to the book swap!

Amber

Crime and Mystery is a genre that i've always dabbled in and enjoyed but never really stuck at because i'm a hopeless romantic at heart and a sucker for a good, cringey romance. I received 'Sharp Objects' and was thrilled as this was actually on my To Be Read list, but i had just never gotten around to reading it. Once i had started reading, i couldn't put it down! i love Gillian Flynn's characterisation of Camille. from the shady, mysterious character in the beginnng to a fully developed and very real character who i related to in a strange sense. The story was captivating, intriguing and had me on the edge of my seat the whole way, even when i thought i had figured everything out, Flynn throws in twists knocking me sideways. Overall, i find it difficult to sum up the story in a few short sentences, but i seriously loved this story, and i couldn't recommend it enough!!

I've always wanted to participate in a book swap and was so excoted seeing it advertsied! by taking part not only have i been introduced to a magnificent novel, but i've also formed a friendship with someone who i can message about my latest read and who will understand my frustrations with fictional characters and made-up worlds. So, for my newfound friendship, i am so thankful to the Literature Society for setting the book swap up!

Thank you to Amber and Abbey for taking part in the Book Swap and we hope you had as much fun as we did!
