FAQs

What is ‘Freshers’?

Freshers is the time for you to get to know Liverpool city, your new university, your accommodation, and your Students’ Union.

We provide fun, introductory events and activities to both new and returning students to help you settle in.

During this time, you can take a moment to get your bearings, visit the wider University campuses and Liverpool City, make new friends, and make the most of university life before getting stuck in with your studies.

How do I make a JMSU account?

Please sign up to the JMSU website with your university email and password.

You must opt in to data sharing with us when you become a student at LJMU – this just means you can access our website and we can email you with updates!

You can do this by logging onto your ‘MyLJMU’ app, heading into the ‘Students’ Union’ section and clicking opt in. Please contact us for further support.

What am I likely to see during Freshers?

We will be hosting Freshers Focus events across each campus in week zero that will help you find friends and explore LJMU better.

In week one, we will be offering lots of fun activities such as the big JMSU pub quiz, a trip to IKEA for any last-minute buys, go karting, kayaking, yoga nights and more - not to mention our much-anticipated Freshers Fair.

Most of our events are either free or have a small deposit to claim your spot, that is refunded upon your attendance. Please refund your ticket if you cannot attend to claim your deposit back.

What is Freshers Fair?

Freshers Fair is the perfect opportunity to find out what JMSU, LJMU and the wider city has to offer.

You can speak to our student groups and learn more about them, speak to university stall holders about the services they offer, as well as bag yourself some exclusive freebies from our commercial partners - not to mention free Domino’s pizza!

Keep an eye out for our JMSU stall and you could be in for a chance of winning some amazing prizes!

I’m a current LJMU student – will there be any activities available for me?

No matter which year of study you’re in, we have many events that cater to all our students - whether you’re a commuter, post graduate or mature student, neurodiverse student, or international student, our Freshers schedule is designed to cater to everyone.

We will be hosting weekday and weekend activities, and most of the events are free or low-cost, in daytime hours, and are alcohol-free to ensure student-friendly and safe environments for all.

I don’t know anyone to go to the events with.

If you’ve come to university solo, please don’t worry. Remember; there are over 27,000 at LJMU, you are not alone!

We have some great events such as community days, paint and sip workshops, and sports sessions that you can come along to. Our events are designed for match-making friendships!

However, if you are anxious in any way about starting university, please get in touch and we will be happy to help. We want everyone to feel comfortable and make the most of their Freshers journey.

I can’t make an event I want to attend.

If you can’t make an event, not to worry, we’re not going anywhere!

Book onto any events you can make and if you need any information, please get in touch with us.

We will be hosting many events throughout the year; this way, you will never miss out. Freshers is just the beginning of a jam-packed year of activity.
