Since they started their terms at the beginning of July, your Student Officers have been busy getting to know JMSU, their community, democracy within SU's and other SU officers. It's really important for all four of them to get stuck in and work as a team, alongside wider teams, in order to make positive and impactful change for students at LJMU. Let's take a look at what they've been getting up to recently:

Officer meet up

Our Officers met with other Student Officers from Liverpool Hope University and University of Liverpool to get to know them, their strengths and weaknesses, any campaigns they are keen to run this year and how they can all work as a collective to make Liverpool a safe and positive environment. They talked about past campaigns that were important to them, such as inclusivity campaigns and safety within the city. They also mentioned the cost of living crisis and how they, as leaders of their respective SUs, can help their students moving forward. It was clear to see that each Officer felt the importance of the collaboration, and they will continue to work together throughout the year for the benefit of their students. Make sure to check out their officer updates and follow them on social media for more information.

Helping the community

They then headed over to Kensington Fields Community Association (KFCA) to help restore their community garden, ready for planters to be made to grow fresh produce and plants. The KFCA is an integrual part of the community and welcomes all walks of life, from children to adults, students to health workers. The Officers thoroughly enjoyed their time there and hope to return for another day filled with laughter, hard work and home-made soup soon!

If you would like to volunteer and get involved with the KFCA, you can check out our volunteering page for more information and become one of our Sustainability Champions.

Pride in Liverpool

All four officers joined over 50 LJMU staff, students, friends and family at the Liverpool Pride march at the end of July. This year marks 50 years of Pride, and it did not disappoint. Our officers had so much fun marching and supporting our vibrant and diverse city.

JMSU are proud to stand with LGBTQA+ people and their communities not just on pride, but all year round. You can check out our list of LGBTQA+ resources, student communities and societies today.

NUS lead and change

NUS Lead and Change was back in person for the first time since 2019 and our Officers enjoyed it thoroughly. They learned new skills through workshops and made new friends along the way. It was really important for our Officers to meet more Student Officers from SUs around the country in order to make widespread changes and positive impacts for students. They supported each other through inspirational mainfesto and personal values sessions, shared ideas on empathy, representation and relationship building exercises and learned lots of transferrable skills from strategy and boundary workshops, all in preparation for their term ahead. Well done team!
