The academic year has come to an end, which means its time to say goodbye to your 2021/22 Officers Emily, Ambar, Charlotte and Pedrom. Whilst we sadly had to say an early goodbye to President Emily back in March, we must now say further farewells to the rest of the Student Officer team in post. We'd like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the amazing work they've been up to this year, and thank them for your time here at the organisation.
Ambar was a positive and active member of JMSU for a number of years, firstly as women's officer. She helped with the research project and launch of the Free Period campaign. Because of this, you will always find free period products in toilets across campus. She has been a champion for inclusivity, equality and human rights. She was righly elected as VP Community and Wellbeing in 2021, and since then has kept the momentum up with her activism. She lead on the Gynaecoloyay campaign, raising awareness around gynaecological health and continues to eradicate the stigma attached to it. She has an active presense in the wider community by contributing to work around the provision of food pantries, mental health services and gender equality.
Charlotte's supportive activitism within JMSU has been greatly recognised since she started her studies at LJMU. She was part of numerous JMSU societies and was a NUS delegate. This enabled her to have an in-depth knowledge of student experience and how important student voice is, making her an excellent candidate for VP Education. Since gaining her post, she proved her passion for equality and student support within the higher eduaction system. She lobbied the university for extended laptop loan schemes over the winter break to aid students with addition support, advocating for digital equality for all students. She also championed a Burnout campaign and provided many stress-relief activites, tips and tricks over exam periods.
Ped's advocacy for mental health and inclusion, as well as his involvment with JMSU, was consistent during his studies. He was appointed Vice-Chair of Sports Forum and Vice-Captain of the MMA Sports Team, showing great leadership skills. This confirmed his role as VP Activities in 2021. Since then, he stood up for mental health and advocated for men to speak out when they're struggling. He launched a Movember campaign which included many students taking part in activities such as painting their nails and growing moustaches to raise awareness and donations to support men's mental health. As well as this, he championed the Inclusacivity campaign and lobbied for women's only sports classes within the sports centre.
On behalf of JMSU, it's been a pleasure to work with these four individuals, who we know are destined for great things. We can't wait to see what lies ahead for each of them, and we wish them the best of luck for the future and can't wait to see them again soon.
