Free workout apps you should know about!

Government guidelines currently allow us to leave our home to exercise, but it is limited to once per day within our local areas. We are allowed to exercise in a public, outdoor place by ourselves and with the people we live with (or those in support or childcare bubbles), or, when alone, with one other person from another household. Personal training can only continue if it is one-on-one, or when participants are from the same household or bubble, but must take place in a public outdoor place, and not in someone’s private home or garden.

In the effort to keep everybody safe throughout lockdown, gyms, sports centres and swimming pools are closed and fitness classes have been cancelled… meaning our exercise regimes are now contained to our homes, or if we’re lucky enough, our local parks and open spaces.

 

 

We know maintaining an exercise routine at home may seem more like a chore than attending your favourite session at the gym. But, moving around the house can greatly lift our moods, support our immune systems and help reduce stress and anxiety. Exercising also steers us away from unhealthy coping mechanisms, and releases endorphins in a time when we need them most!

 

There’s a plus side too, the money we’re saving! There are SO many free workout apps, videos and classes happening online that you can access 24/7. We’ve pulled together a list of some of our favourites for you to bookmark, follow and download.

 

TECHNOGYM 

Launching today, LJMU now offers on-demand exercise classes via app TechnoGym! Register your account on the Mywellness app using our LJMU email address and look for the Liverpool John Moores University facility.

 

WORK OUT AT HOME WITH LJMU 🤸🏿

We’ve teamed up with LJMU Performance Sport to provide weekly lockdown home workouts! Torch those calories, keep active and improve your mental and physical wellbeing with us on Zoom every Wednesday and Friday! Check out jmsu.co.uk/events for the next session!

 

NIKE TRAINING CLUB ✔️

The “ultimate personal trainer” app has a library of more than 185 free workouts for everyone, from strength and endurance-based routines to softer mobility sessions and yoga. The app also provides daily recommendations based on the activity you have logged, personalised to you.

 

7 MINUTE WORKOUT ⚡️

This app is the answer to your “I don’t have time to work out” problems! It hosts 7 minute long, no-equipment-needed sessions designed to deliver the maximum benefit in the shortest time.

 

30 DAY SQUAT CHALLENGE 🏋️‍♂️

This app provides you with a simple, 30-day exercise plan centred around the glutes! Tackle different variations of the squat during various workouts throughout the month. You’ll be happy to know that rest days are included!

 

YOUTUBE CLASSES 💻

There are literally millions of workout videos on YouTube, where would you even begin? How do you narrow that down? Don’t worry – we did that for you! From HIIT to pilates, breathing exercises to body sculpt, have a browse through these YouTubers for your free dose each day:

Don’t forget! We have our weekly Walk & Talks! 🐾🚶‍♂️ Join us every Tuesday for an afternoon stroll with our pooches, and if you have a fluffy friend of your own, bring them along! These are safe, chilled sessions to get us away from our laptop, get some fresh air and check-in with one another.
