Action Tutoring is a national education charity dedicated to supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment, with a view to setting them on a strong trajectory for achieving at secondary school, or enabling them to progress to further education, employment or training. They do this by pairing high quality volunteer tutors with primary and secondary pupils to help build their maths or English subject knowledge, study skills, confidence and growth mindset through weekly one hour sessions, taking place either online or at a local partner school. Tutors guide pupils through a carefully tailored tutoring curriculum, with the purpose of building pupils' maths and English subject knowledge, study skills, confidence, resilience and growth mindset.
The volunteer commitment is one hour per week across the course of a school term (8-10 weeks). They'll provide all the resources and training needed to tutor, plus they will cover the cost of an Enhanced DBS check. As a volunteer, you choose the time/day that suits you best, and they can provide a reference for future work or career endeavours upon completion of a programme. This academic year, as part of the government's National Tutoring Programme, they're aiming to support approximately 7,000 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to catch up with missed learning, and are looking for the support of around 3,000 fantastic volunteer tutors. You can tutor online or in-person across Merseyside and Chester schools, or tutor online to support pupils across the country. You can apply via this link: https://www.tfaforms.com/332860
Face-to-face opportunities are available in Liverpool, Southport and Wirral. You can also tutor online from anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales.

Support either primary or secondary school-aged pupils - you get to choose!
Use our tutor workbooks or online resources to shape your weekly sessions

Through tutoring with us our volunteers are able to develop a wealth of transferable skills (interpersonal, organisational, communication) all whilst making a great impact.
Good grades improve future prospects, opening the door to a wider range of opportunities. If you enjoy working with children and are passionate about social equality, you can make a tangible difference by volunteering for an hour a week.
Volunteering for just one hour per week is a rewarding way to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people. You will be directly supporting them to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with the grades needed to build a bright future, all while developing your own experience!
