Volunteer English or maths Tutor

Details Hide[-]

Face-to-face opportunities are available in Liverpool, Southport and Wirral. You can also tutor online from anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales.

We are looking for volunteers to support pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in maths or English. As a volunteer, you’ll:

  • Work with a group of 1 to 3 pupils each week in school term time to improve their English and/ or maths, either in-person or online

  • Commit to a 10, 15 or 20 week programme, for just one hour a week

  • Support either primary or secondary school-aged pupils - you get to choose!

  • Use our tutor workbooks or online resources to shape your weekly sessions

Benefits

Meet other Action Tutoring volunteers who come from a range of different backgrounds and occupations and are aged from 18 to 81! We hold Tutor Socials and pay up to £5 per session for public transport or mileage.

Through tutoring with us our volunteers are able to develop a wealth of transferable skills (interpersonal, organisational, communication) all whilst making a great impact.

Good grades improve future prospects, opening the door to a wider range of opportunities. If you enjoy working with children and are passionate about social equality, you can make a tangible difference by volunteering for an hour a week.

Volunteering for just one hour per week is a rewarding way to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people. You will be directly supporting them to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with the grades needed to build a bright future, all while developing your own experience!

Required Role

Volunteer English or maths Tutor

Key responsibilities

Enthusiasm for learning and the subject you’re tutoring is important. You'll need to do a small amount of prep ahead of each session, just so you know what you're tutoring and ways you might explain the material we provide to the children in your group. As you have the same 1 hour slot each week in school term time, punctuality is important online and in person.
