Outline: Through gaining feedback from your course cohort, you will be working with other Course and School Reps as well as University and JMSU Staff, to ensure that the student voice is at the heart of decision making.

Term of Position: Academic year 2024-2025

Accountable to: The JMSU Vice-President of Education, supervised by the Academic Communities and Representation Coordinator.

Member of/attends: 

  • Board of Studies
  • JMSU Education Forum
  • JMSU Annual General Meeting 
  • Regular Updates with your School Rep, JMSU Vice-President Education and JMSU Student Voice Staff
  • Other groups or meetings as appropriate and mandated. E.g. Course Rep training, Student Leadership Training Programme, etc. 

Hours: As the role requires (approximately 4-5 hours a month) and can be flexible dependant on studies and needs of the course.

Benefits: All Reps (School and Course), will have opportunities to be rewarded for their engagement and commitment to the role. E.g., Socials that will be free to attend and exclusive to academic reps, and invitations to the Student Experience Awards in May, etc. 

Role Summary: 

  • To have an open channel of feedback between fellow students and academic staff.
  • To work closely with your School Rep, the Sabbatical Officer team and JMSU staff to ensure that all JMSU policies, practices and activities provide equality of opportunity to all. 
  • To provide feedback to academic staff to enable them to ensure student voice is at the heart of decision making.

Responsibilities: 

  • To attend all meetings as required by the role.
  • To maintain an open awareness of issues affecting students on your course, beyond the modules you are in.
  • To liaise with JMSU and University staff regularly.
  • To embody LJMU and JMSU’s attitudes towards furthering equality of all students.

General Duties: 

  • To undertake training as required to fulfil your role.
  • To conduct yourself appropriately as a public presentative of LJMU students and JMSU.
  • To reach out to your programme leader to ensure they are aware you are a Course Rep.
  • To effectively communicate information and plans with relevant members of the JMSU team.
  • Ensure that JMSU policies and procedures are always adhered to, and where appropriate, make recommendations and contribute to the amendment or development of a policy.
  • Carry out all duties with the scope of the role set out by JMSU.
  • To contribute to evaluation at the end of your role.
