What is Yu-Gi-Oh?
Yu-Gi-Oh is a collectible card game created in 1999 and has gone on to become one of the biggest card games of all time. Born from the anime and manga series of the same name, the game pits two players against each other using a deck of 40-60 cards comprised of monster, spell and trap cards to be the first to reduce their opponents life points to 0. Over the many years since it first launched there have been many new mechanics and playstyles added to the game, keeping it fresh and new over the years. Yu-Gi-Oh is currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary and now isn't a better time to look over the history of the game!
About Us:
We are a group of students who prefer a more quiet, relaxed space compared to hobby stores. We don't just love playing the regular game we also play alternate formats, themed tournaments and hosting draft nights. We also enjoy the manga and anime so don't be suprised if we talk about it or even host screenings from time-to-time! We're focused on creating an inclusive space where players from all backgrounds and experience can enjoy playing the game so whether you're a pro player caught up with the meta or a new player learning the game, you're more than welcome to join us!
Key Information:
Currently, we plan to have our weekly sessions from 6-8 pm at the Student Life Building on Wednesdays. This is subject to change so make sure to keep an eye on our Instagram for any important updates.
In our inaugural year as a sociey, we accuired multiple playsets and structure decks for new players to use with the funding we recieved that year. Becuase of that, we are pleased to announce that the Yu-Gi-Oh society will be FREE to join! Now has never been a better time than to go give it a try.
Why Should You Join Us:
One of our key goals for this society is to make the game as accsesable as possible. We not only provide free Structure Decks and playsets free for members to use, we also host tornaments using online simualtors, allow and even print proxy cards for members to use for those cards that are a little *too* expensive to pick up. we're constantly thinking of more ways to make the game accsesable and we're always open for suggestions. We also understand that university can be challenging, exhausting and mentally draining each year. As a society here at LJMU we not only want you to have fun distraction playing the game of Yu-Gi-Oh, but we also want to help you unwind, relax and be comfortable. We want to offer the space to have fun, relax and make new friends during your time at LJMU and all we ask for in return is that you keep our space positive and friendly.
