The LJMU LGBTQ+ Society is a vibrant and welcoming community dedicated to supporting and celebrating students of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. We provide a space where members can connect, express themselves freely, and engage in meaningful conversations and activities designed to foster inclusion, empowerment, and visibility — all while having fun and building lasting friendships.
Welcome to the LJMU LGBTQ+ Society! Our group is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for anyone who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community or is an ally. We recognise the importance of belonging and acceptance in university life and strive to offer a welcoming space where you can be your authentic self. Our society aims to champion social issues affecting LGBTQ+ individuals, advocate for equality and respect, and provide opportunities for members to engage in events and activities that reflect their interests and identities. Whether you want to meet new friends, participate in meaningful discussions, or enjoy social gatherings, our society is here to make sure your university experience is enriched and celebrated. Everyone is welcome, and we encourage input from all members to shape the events and activities that best serve our community.
The LJMU LGBTQ+ Society typically meets twice a week to balance fun and inclusivity. On Tuesdays, we host our popular social nights at a local safe and welcoming pub, where members can relax, unwind, and connect in a friendly atmosphere from around 7pm to 9pm. Thursdays are reserved for sober socials held in the Student Life Building, where we organise a variety of engaging and inclusive activities that don’t involve alcohol—perfect for those who prefer a quieter, supportive environment. Beyond these weekly meetups, we organise additional events throughout the academic year including workshops, awareness campaigns, and themed socials, making sure there are always opportunities to get involved, learn, and celebrate together. Follow our socials to stay up to date on all our latest gatherings and special events!
Joining the LJMU LGBTQ+ Society means becoming part of a community where you will always feel valued, respected, and supported. It’s a place to make new friends who understand your experiences and to celebrate your identity without judgment. Whether you’re looking for lively socials, safe spaces to share your thoughts, or opportunities to engage in activism and advocacy, our society offers all of that and more. We embrace diversity and encourage members to help shape our events and activities, so your voice truly matters here. Being part of the LGBTQ+ Society isn’t just about socialising—it’s about empowerment, growth, and belonging. If you want to enrich your university experience while standing with a passionate and caring community, this is the place for you.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
