The History Society at LJMU isn’t just for history students — it’s for anyone who loves
uncovering the past, exploring ideas, and connecting with others who enjoy a good discussion, a museum trip, or simply learning something new outside of the classroom.
The LJMU History Society is a student-led community for anyone with a passion for history, regardless of what you study. Whether you’re fascinated by ancient empires, modern revolutions, or local Liverpool heritage, you’ll find a welcoming space to share your interests and expand your horizons.
We organise a wide variety of activities throughout the year — from engaging guest speaker sessions and themed socials to city walking tours, museum visits, and chill pub quizzes. We’re here to make history fun, interactive, and social. Whether you’re hoping to enrich your academic life or just want to geek out over your favourite historical period, this is the place to do it.
We meet regularly for both academic and social events, with activities ranging from weekend museum visits and city heritage walks to informal study support sessions and themed get-togethers. We also bring in guest lecturers and historians to share their insights and spark discussion. You don’t need to drink to take part — we have sober representatives, and all our events are designed to be inclusive, relaxed, and accessible. We’re also happy to help with anything from study advice to general questions about university life, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
Because you don’t have to take history — or yourself — too seriously to enjoy this society. We’re all about building a welcoming, inclusive community where you can be curious, laugh a lot, and make real connections. Whether you want help with essay-writing, enjoy hearing passionate historians speak, or just fancy meeting others who love talking about Tudor drama, Cold War politics or medieval myths, you’ll feel right at home here.
So, if you’re looking for a relaxed way to enrich your uni experience, meet likeminded students, and make memories while exploring the past — join us. You bring the interest, and we’ll bring the events, the laughs, and the occasional weird historical fact you didn’t know you needed.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
