World Mental Health Day 2014

Tuesday 07-10-2014 - 17:11

World Mental Health Day is the annual global celebration of mental health education, awareness and advocacy.

Join LiverpoolSU and LJMU Student Advice and Wellbeing Services in a range of activities designed to celebrate good mental health and encourage us all to look at what we can do to maintain and promote positive wellbeing. We've got lots planned so come along, join in and help us end the stigma that surrounds mental health.

Student Minds group

LiverpoolSU and LJMU Student Advice and Wellbeing Services will be holding a launch event for the Student Minds group on Friday the 10th of October from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Liverpool SU Activity Space.

Student Minds is a student led group all about connecting and sharing your experiences, thoughts and ideas with fellow students on the best way to maintain good mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Through being part of Student Minds you can:

  • Be proactive in improving student health and wellbeing
  • Develop a proactive programme of health promotion
  • De-stigmatise attitudes towards mental health
  • Open up a healthy, positive and progressive conversation around the subject
  • Help bring about positive change on your campus through campaigning, activities and facilitating peer support programmes
  • Access training opportunities and resources provided by Student Minds, UK's student mental health charity www.studentminds.org.uk to support LJMU Student Minds initiatives.

We will also be having a Nintendo Wii competition with a prize on offer and food and refreshments will be available, so come along and find out more.

LJMU Wellbeing Choir

We are recruiting for the 2014 LJMU Wellbeing Choir on World Mental Health Day. The LJMU Wellbeing Choir is an informal, fun group and aims to encourage wellbeing through singing in a group.  Singing can make us all feel good, whether it’s singing in the shower, humming on the bus or yodelling on a hill, singing can lift our mood and bring a smile to our face. Like laughter, playing, sunshine and being outdoors, singing makes us happy and is fundamentally enriching to our wellbeing, both physically and psychologically.

It is open to staff and students, so if you would like to get the happiness and harmonies flowing please contact:

Bernadette McGrath - Health & Wellbeing Project Officer
