Earlier last year, JMSU initiated discussions with the University to seek support for an 'Umbrella Project' installation within the campus grounds. They enthusiastically embraced this idea, and we are delighted to showcase the installation on the upper ground floor of the Student Life Building surrounding the JMSU Reception, provided by the ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity.

Each display celebrates the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome. These conditions, including those described as ‘Neurotypical’, fall under the umbrella term of neurodiversity, describing the naturally occurring variations in human neurocognitive capabilities that exist in every culture, race, and gender.

This marks just the beginning of JMSU's journey, as we are actively working towards achieving a 'Neurodiversity Friendly' Award through the ADHD Foundation. We will also be collaborating with our students and the University’s Equality and Diversity team, joining forces to improve our neurodivergent community’s experience.

We look forward to planning some of the ways we can shape our agenda over the coming months – we would love your input. Please email us for any thoughts or queries.
