Hello again! I’m back with another list for everyone but this one’s just a little different. There’s a lot of podcasts out there and it can often seem like there’s too many which is why I’m here to give some recommendations that you may or may not be familiar with! Plus, at this stressful time, a podcast may just be what the doctor ordered!

As I only regularly listen to about 3 podcasts, a lot of research went in to curating this list (which is a tough thing for a lazy student like me.) Because of this, most of the podcasts on here I have no connection to, but I tried my best to expand my horizons and really gather a wide range of subjects. Without any further ado and in no particular order, let’s begin...

Grounded with Louis Theroux

If there’s one thing we students love, it’s Louis Theroux. Through lockdown, the man himself finally started his own podcast where he interviews all the celebrities, activists & artists that he's always wanted to interview, but never got the chance. Louis' signature soothing voice means this is one you could definitely revise to!

Gardeners World

This may seem like it comes completely from left field, but you’d be surprised how therapeutic gardening is, just ask my mum (the person who recommended this podcast for my list).  If you love calming discussions of nature and how to take care of plants, then you’ll love this!

Listen here:

Renegades: Born in the USA

Brought to you by two of America’s greatest icons, Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen. This limited series sees a former President and rock star sit down to discuss their lives and country. It’s a very timely account of two important and fascinating lives. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.

Listen here:

Song Exploder

For all you music buffs out there, this one should be essential listening. Each episode features a musical guest coming in to breakdown or “explode” one of their hit songs. If you love hearing behind-the-scenes stories from your favourite artists, this is one you shouldn’t miss.

Listen here:

Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend

American talk show host and comedian, Conan O’Brien, interviews a new celebrity guest each week on a never-ending quest to find a friend. This is one I listen to week-on-week and it’s always a good time thanks to Conan’s zany sense of humour and the hilarious inputs from his tortured assistant, Sona. It gets a high recommendation from me!

Listen here:

Happy Place

Wellbeing is crucial for everyone, so, of course, I had to include Happy Place! Happy Place sees Fearne Cotton talking to a new guest every week about life, love and loss in order to reveal what happiness means to them. If you’re struggling and need a podcast to help, this is the one.

Listen here:

The Empire Film Podcast

Of course, I had to include a film podcast, I’m a film student after all! For my money, there’s no better podcast for film lovers, Empire Magazine’s podcast brings it all, interviews, exclusives, and much, much more. A recent highlight was a 3-hour discussion between Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino. Perfect for all you film buffs out there!

Listen here:

Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster

Perhaps the silliest idea for a podcast on this list features Ed Gamble and James Acaster bringing a new celebrity in each week to discuss their ideal meal. From this, hilarity ensues and after one listen, you’ll absolutely be hungry for more! (Pun absolutely intended)

Listen here:

Serial

Trying to find the top True Crime podcast to share was a challenge but this is one of the best. Investigative journalist, Sarah Koenig, tells one thrilling story over the course of a whole season. This is one full of twists and turns and for those of you with a True Crime itch, this’ll definitely scratch it.

Listen here:

F**kFace

What started as 3 friends discussing their dumb mistakes or “f**kfaces” in life soon devolves into court cases about pencil eating, creating cults and being in the Zimmer zone (To explain takes way too many words). This is my favourite podcast right now that will absolutely leave you scratching your head in hilarious confusion. Gets a strong recommendation from me!

There we have it! Another week, another blog. I hope you all give these podcasts a chance and let us know what your favourite podcasts are!

On that note, thank you for reading and I’ll see you next time!
