Officers

If you haven’t already, meet your Student Officers Marie, Clodagh, Gaby, and Shaquita. They were elected in spring of 2022 to lead JMSU as an organisation, ensuring they are the voice of the student body of LJMU. Since they took their positions as Student Officers in July, they have been working hard to finalise their manifestos, create plans on how to execute their plans and are now developing high-quality campaigns to ensure students are represented at university.

They have spent the last few months getting to know each other, the wider JMSU team, LJMU board members, staff members and important people in the community to ensure they are well prepared for their term ahead.

Meet your Student Officer Team

Hi! Marie here, President of JMSU. I’m outgoing, assertive, and a big foodie. I love visiting the Albert Docks, chilling with my friends, and I’m always on the hunt for discovering new things. I loved studying at LJMU and made so many friends and connections, that’s why I’m excited to start my new journey as your President to make many more!

My manifesto aims are to:

  • Support students through the Cost-of-Living Crisis
  • Ensure better representation by supporting students over the Winter Break and continuing to work with LJMU and LJMU by decolonising the curriculum to develop students’ voices are heard
  • Develop more inclusive and diverse JMSU events
  • Improve Student Support in and around campus by creating more neurodiverse-friendly spaces, prayer rooms, and support in accommodations.

Hey I’m Clodagh, JMSU’s VP Activities!

I’m a bubbly, caring and giggly person that is hoping to bring endless opportunities to others here at LJMU and JMSU. I would describe JMSU as a homely place, I’ve spent countless hours at the SLB during my studies, both socially and academically.

My manifesto aims are to:

  • Support students through the Cost-of-Living Crisis
  • Make sure all students have the same opportunities to get involved with activities, sports and societies by developing a ‘Challenge Clodagh’ campaign, develop casual memberships for student groups and to develop a trans policy to protect those who are trans, non-binary and non-gender.
  • Improve accessibility for activities, increase awareness of disabilities and to make sure the sports building is more inclusive.
  • Provide equal representation for sports and societies by giving support and be more present.

Hey! I’m Shaquita. I’m so excited to get started as your VP Education!

I’m an optimistic, smiley, and chilled person that loves to dance and travel. I was so proud to win the Special Recognition Award at Sports Awards 2020 and feel a strong sense of community within JMSU. I hope I can represent the student voice and be a friendly, approachable person to all.

My manifesto aims are to:

  • Work with JMSU, LJMU, student reps and staff to review course content in an attempt to decolonise the academic curriculum, as well as creating a decolonise the curriculum pledge with LJMU.
  • Reduce hidden course costs by working with the university to increase the number of core resources that are free, create a hardship fund to provide accessible opportunities for students, create a fund pot for students who need access.
