This year's Community Reps working within the Smithdown area were tasked with creating a local event that could break down barriers and encourage new friendships between student residents and those who live there permanently.

The Community Reps came up with a great idea of holding a 'mini-festival' within the local community. Born from this was 'Smithdown Community Festival' which took place on Wednesday 22nd October within the Wellington Avenue Church (WAM) Friendship Centre.

With various local stakeholders including The Deli, Evil Eye Burrito Shack, Liverpool City Council, City Bikes, Liverpool Student Homes and Merseyside Police in attendance, this was a really well attended event and some great relationships were formed.

Dan Cole, Vice President Community Engagement at LiverpoolSU said about the event, “The Smithdown Community Festival went really well and it was great to see local residents getting involved as well as local businesses. We’re really keen to strengthen the great links we already have within the Smithdown area and there are various exciting plans over the coming months.”

Many thanks to those who came along and also to the WAM, who kindly donated the use of their centre for the afternoon!

If you're living within the Kensington area, we have our 'Kensington Fields Fun Day' within the Kensington Fields Community Centre on Tuesday 28th October between 10.30am and 1pm. Come along and see the exciting things that we're doing within the Kensington area!
