Wednesday 14-11-2018 - 16:53

Nominations have now closed for our NUS Delegate Elections! The elected NUS Delegates will attend the NUS Conference in Glasgow in April 2019 and represent the views of all 20,000 LJMU students.

The NUS Conference is a gathering of hundreds of delegates from Universities across the UK where key issues are voted on, the NUS is held to account and the next President of the NUS is voted on.

Here are the candidates and their manifestos:

David Hitchmough

Bring back free education! Grants not fees!

Education should be free. All students should receive grants which are sufficient to live on. Students should not suffer crippling debts!

I am running with the backing of the Socialist Students Society and I stand for a democratic campaigning Student Union, which fights for all students.
I stand for affordable rents for all students, including caps on what halls and landlords can charge.
The NUS must actively oppose all discrimination, including the racist Prevent legislation, and defend international students after Brexit.
The NUS is YOUR Union, let’s make sure it's working for you!

Jack Massey

As someone who is diagnosed with Autism and has experienced many panic attacks and anxiety during my university, I would love to be a representative for others who suffer as well. University is a scary transition in life and it’s much harder for those with mental health issues. I want to shed light onto this matter and to show people what it’s like for people with mental health issues going through a strange and stressful transition in life.

Megan Collins

We are going to make a change. We are going to make an impact. We are going to have OUR SAY. as students, as individuals, as a university we will make a difference. We will make sure that your university experience is the best it can be. We will stand up for YOUR RIGHTS, we will get you WHAT YOU WANT. we will make a difference. it’s about US working together. It’s about standing up and letting OUR voice be heard.. it’s about time isn’t it? If not now.. when? If not me...Who?

These students need your votes! Voting opens at 8am tomorrow morning (Thursday 15th November) - make sure you check your LJMU inbox for your voting link.
