Mollie's Mission - Dance Music and DJ Society

Mollie's Mission went to learn how to DJ with the Dance Music and DJ Society.

The first thing I had to learn was how to beat match. The aim of this is to get 2 tracks playing at once with the same beats per minute. This is how you get 2 songs to mix togther.

No photo description available.

To be able to mix the 2 tracks you have to merge them into each other and this requires a lot of skill! There are 3 dials that all need to be turned at the right time to make the tracks smoothly mix. The bottom dial controls the deep beats of the track, the middle dial controls the melody and the top dial controls the higher frequencies.

To ensure you get the beats right, you have to play the first track on loop until you want to bring the next track in and then slowly take out different elements of the tracks to fade them into each other. To help with this, yuo can hear this through the headphones but not through the speakers.

A great tip the society gave me was that you want to mix music to 16 or 32 beats.

This was a little bit tricky but with a little guidance I was able to mix a song :) for any tips for frist time DJs, the soeity recommended looking at vidoes on facebook to get a good understanding of what each dial and slider did.
