Looprevil Press were recently invited by Youth Media group Photo Voice to speak at their first ever Lookout event, which took place on Tuesday 11th June at FACT Liverpool.
Based upon the theme “How can young people be heard?”, Looprevil were honoured to take part in a panel debate alongside inspiring and creative young people from the UK. These included Liverpool Social Entrepreneur Ben Oso, Lookout Nottingham Photographer Ryan Crawford and UK Female Beat box Champion Grace Savage. Representing Looprevil Press was 2nd year BA Popular Music Studies and Looprevil journalist Sarah O’ Hara.
Lasting for over an hour, each panellist was asked to describe how the youth voice can be heard through their media form. Looprevil are constantly striving to provide a voice for students to speak about issues that concern them. Distributed not only within LJMU university buildings but also in the city centre, the quarterly paper is easily accessible to a wide demographic of students, youths and the greater Liverpool community. Looprevil Press’ website is also constantly updated with the latest news.
The debate raised a variety of interesting issues regarding young people and how they can be heard. Looprevil’s response to one issue – How can young people be heard if the opportunities are not there? – was met with applause, as Looprevil urged young people to go out and create opportunities for themselves, as Looprevil did when the society was set up over 5 years ago.
Commenting on Looprevil’s presence at the event, newly appointed Editor Sophie Cork stated: “I’m delighted that Looprevil were asked to be part of such an exciting event. It is a great opportunity to get our name out there and do some valuable networking with other local youth media organisations. This event helps to put Looprevil in the best possible position in September to begin what will hopefully be our most successful year yet”.
