Know Your Rights: Resits, Support and Funding

Many of you will have just received your end of year results and some of you might have found yourself in the position of needing to come back to uni in August for the summer referrals period known to most of you as re-sits. Don’t panic – there are others in this situation and we are here to make sure you know what support is available to you.

LJMU is keen to remove as many barriers as possible for students who are required to attend summer referrals or associated study skills sessions to progress on their course and we have our own academic advice service available for you to access too.

So what’s on offer?

Student accommodation

Free accommodation will be available to all students required to attend summer referral examinations with a permanent address 40 miles or more travelling distance from Liverpool city-centre. This is the address held on the LJMU student records system for you.

En-suite rooms will be available at Grand Central from Friday, 10 to Saturday, 18 August inclusive and eligible students will be able to book a room for the full period. All students will receive a bedding pack on arrival and kitchen items will be available in all flats.

Travel costs

Reimbursement of travel costs is available to all students required to attend summer referral examinations and who meet the eligibility criteria, whether they request accommodation or not. Reimbursement is capped at £100 or the cost of a standard class return ticket using public transport, whichever is the lowest. This assistance is also available for students who have a home address at least 40 miles travelling distance from LJMU. Again, this is from the address held on the LJMU student records system for you.

Make sure you know the deadlines!

Requests for accommodation should be sent to refacc@ljmu.ac.uk by no later than 12 noon on Monday, 6 August and must include full name, LJMU ID number and home postcode. Eligible students will receive notification on whether their request has been accepted and information on how to access their room by no later than 12 noon on Wednesday, 8 August.
