Would you like to be a trustee of your Students’ Union?
Interested in our student voice work; our support to societies and sports teams; our hall and community rep activity or other work in the Liverpool community? Interested in what we provide for certain groups of students? Whatever your interests now, this is the chance to gain an understanding of all the work of the Students’ Union and get new skills which will really make your CV stand out.
Opportunity:
Liverpool Students’ Union is a charity and has a vacancy for three student trustees to join our board for the next academic year. This would be working alongside the four elected Sabbatical Officers and four community trustees. The new student trustee would be a board member until June 2015, with the opportunity to stand again afterwards if they wished.
We will be holding an election for our trustee positions at our annual meeting on 12th March at 5pm; where all LJMU students who attend will have the opportunity to vote for the candidates that they want. It’s straight-forward for you to stand in the election, all candidates will be asked to speak for 60 seconds about why they think they are the best person for the role.
Time Commitment:
Board meetings are held every two months, as well as occasional ad hoc meetings, and potential Trustee development workshops. You will also join the other two student trustees in leading our Have Your Say activity, where students get the chance to shape the work of the Union. There are two Have Your Say meetings each year, which student trustees will need to attend. In addition there are monthly action groups, however these can also be inputted to via email.
You can find out more about our board and look at previous board papers to see the types of decisions that are made, by going to this page. Before you start in the role you would be given induction and support by LiverpoolSU staff and trustees.
"Ever since I was elected it has provided me with so any opportunities to get more involved in the Students' Union as well as the chance to work with some prominent figures in the university and in Liverpool. I have learnt so much about how organisations are run; everything from the financial aspects to the actual employees. I have been a part of some huge decisions this year and it is so rewarding being able to see those decisions in action. When I first started I felt that my opinion didn't matter as much as the other members but now I realise just how important it is to have a student voice on the trustee board and I would strongly recommend anyone to consider standing for the role."
Current Student Trustee
If you have any questions, or if you are interested in running to be one of our Student Trustees next year, but are unable to attend our annual meeting, please contact Becci Heard, our Student Voice Manager on r.heard@ljmu.ac.uk; with a brief overview of who you are, why you want to run, and the reasons that students should elect you. Please be aware that all speeches will be cut off at 60 seconds, and so any text you send should not exceed this to read out.
