It's Julia your VP Academic Quality here,
As part of changes arising out of Brexit, the UK Government will require all EU citizens – except those from the Republic of Ireland - to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to stay in the UK beyond 31 December 2020. As a EU citizen myself, I want to make other students who find themselves in my situation aware of the process.
LJMU - alongside the University of Liverpool, Hope University and a dozen NHS trusts - are taking part in a pilot of this new scheme to support EU citizens who work and study in the UK to apply for settled status.
Therefore EU citizens in Liverpool are among the first people in the country to complete the process. Once the Home Office system is launched next year it will be accessed online. During the pilot, there is an opportunity to receive face to face help from Home Office staff.
Involvement is entirely voluntary and no student is required to take part. No names or other details of students will be passed to the Home Office. LJMU, amongst others, are simply providing an opportunity for students to go through this process early and with additional support. Every LJMU student and staff member will have received an email with the details, but just to summarise: you can book an appointment between 9am-5pm on Mon 8th October and Wed 10th October to apply with the support of the Home Office. LJMU students will have to email: EUSSLiverpooljmu@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
For further details, check the original email you've been sent, contact LJMU support or message JMSU. I'll be applying for the scheme and I'll share my journey to make you aware of the details, but by all means, applying is entirely voluntary and I encourage you to make an informed choice for what is best for you.
