So a lot of you won’t know who the Student Officer team are and what exactly we do on a daily basis. You might see pictures (and sometimes life size cardboard cut outs) of us around campus, the odd video or two and we might even be invited to come and speak to you during your lecture.
I’m here to explain who we are, what we do and how we can help you have the best student experience LJMU and Liverpool can offer. There are four Student Officer positions:
The President (that’s me). I'm Aisling, and my job is to oversee the Officer team and represent your views to the university, locally and nationally.
Jamie, Vice President Academic Quality, who works to make teaching, learning and resources better for you.
Daniel, Vice President Community Engagement, who is here to make sure you’re happy, healthy and safe in your local community.
Summer, Vice President Activities who is here to help you feel excited about getting involved in sports and societies.
Each of us stood to be elected by you to make a change. Whether that change is big or small, you put your trust in us four to make it.
We were each JMU students until we graduated recently. I studied Media, Culture & Communication for three years, graduated and then decided that I wanted to do it all again by doing a Masters in Digital Marketing.
I come from Northern Ireland originally, from a very rural place called County Fermanagh. As someone who is definitely not interested in farming and living in the countryside, I chose to come to Liverpool and to LJMU after I had finished my A-levels. A lot of you will have been in a similar situation; having to make a huge, life-changing decision to come to university, or to move away from home for the first time. It’s definitely not always easy being a student, but man I miss those days.
This year we’re each going to take in turns to keep you in the loop with what’s happening at your Students’ Union. We want you to get to know us, as four very individual people who absolutely love what we do and want to help you get the most out of your time at LJMU.
Please feel free to tweet, email, ring me (on 0151 231 4900) or speak to me face-to-face if you see me about on campus.
P.S. I get a lot of confused looks when people try and pronounce my name. It’s pronounced “Ash-ling”, one of those good old Irish names that is in no way pronounced the same way as it is spelt.
Here's me loving this year's graduation ceremonies!
