Hi! I'm Howisha, your VP Community Engagement and I'm really excited to launch #BookAfterYourself for Wellbeing Week.
We have introduced a Book Swap, with books donated by charity Better World Books, in all of the social spaces across campus to promote student wellbeing. Reading for just thirty minutes a week has been proven to have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing.
I made a commitment to focus on mental health because it is so important for me personally and we have consistently seen that it is for you, our students. Our hope is that this initiative will help you to relax, reflect and feel refreshed on campus.
The Book Swap is happening alongside the introduction of ‘Leisure Reading Spaces’ in all three of the LJMU libraries, where there are non-academic books for you to borrow and read at your leisure.
We spoke to Valerie Stevenson, Head of Academic Services at LJMU and she said: “I was very keen to add some leisure reading books to our Library collections after I heard about similar initiatives at other universities. Reading is one of my favourite ways to relax after a busy day, just taking ten minutes to read a poem, getting lost in a story or learning about something entirely new for fun. I hope we’ll see everyone picking up a book to relax with during Wellbeing Week.”
We hope you get involved, enjoy and #BookAfterYourself!
