Spider Project has been on the Wirral since 2007. We are a creative arts and wellbeing recovery community project.
We offer a wide range of Creative Arts courses, Holistic Therapies and Physical Exercise sessions. Many of the courses we provide are accredited and you can gain valuable qualifications through our Open Awards programmes. Getting involved at Spider helps you build self-belief, increase confidence and make new friends. All of this strengthens your on going recovery and keeps you strong for what life throws your way.
We are currently looking for volunteers for our crisis service, Compañeros - a safe space in the heart of Birkenhead for people who are struggling with emotional and psychological distress, and who consider themselves to be in a self-defined crisis. The facility is hosted by professionals, volunteers, peers, and includes people with lived experience.
The café offers a non-clinical, alternative to the traditional pathway for people who need help and support within a community setting. Compañeros provides a safe and calming environment, with access to one-to-one crisis intervention, wellbeing recovery projects, creative arts, and other essential social and emotional support.
At Spider Project, we provide creative recovery activities to our members in order to help them build skills to move forward in their recovery from addiction and mental health struggles.
We currently run a Film and Video Production Group every Wednesday 10am - 12pm. We are always open to new ideas and if you feel you have the right skills and dedication, we would love for you to join our team.
Volunteers are one of the main driving forces of our project and we recognise this with many rewards, recognition and supporting including free gig tickets for Future Yard (on request) and trips out over the year.
If you are interested, we will invite you in for an informal chat about us, you and how you can help; from there, you will be trained in various topics covering addiction, mental health and safeguarding to ensure you understand the service fully.
This is a great oppurtunity for anyone who is interested in supporting vulnerable adults in learning new skills and to curate their own skills alongside their university subject and looking for experience leading/teaching techniques in Film and Video Production, working closely with staff and members to curate ideas and projects for the group.
