This is both a beautiful and interesting trail taking you around the foot of Loughrigg Fell, past Loughrigg Tarn, and along the terrace before heading to Rydal Cave a fascinating man-made cavern, the result of slate quarrying. The trail then returns to the start via Steps End Wood and beside the River Rothay.

Take care on the rougher sections, especially in wetter conditions when the terrain becomes more difficult. Appropriate footwear is required.
