The 2014 AGM took place on Tuesday 11th March, from 5.15pm in the Haigh Building.

President Curtis Reid alongside his fellow Elected Student Officers, Vice President Community Engagement, Dan Cole & Vice President Activities, Sam, Davys led the AGM.

Over the last year LiverpoolSU has done a lot of great work engaging with students around campuses and helping them with any issues that they may have and that was outlined here. Statistics show that 13,118 students engaged with LiverpoolSU over the last year which is more than half of JMU’s student population.

Another triumph for the Union was the restructuring of the ‘Have Your Say Forums’ changing them from forums to conference style events now known as ‘Have Your Say Conferences’. This has seen a huge rise in the number of students getting involved with these over the last year hitting 1139.

There has also been 20 new clubs and societies that have started up in the last year including a men’s Lacrosse team, music producing society, feminist society just to name a few. This means that there are now more than 1250 students who actively take part in sports clubs and societies across LJMU.

LiverpoolSU has also been able to make some big differences to student life in Liverpool over the last year. The have been able to Successfully lobby for changes to bursary schemes, get more laptops being made available in Byrom Street, dozens of free water dispensers around campuses and the introduction of a new free shuttle bus for students at the IM Marsh campus. 

As well as this LiverpoolSU has been heavily involved in a mental health awareness campaign led by Dan Cole which saw LiverpoolSU make the pledge to end mental health stigma alongside several other Liverpool based companies.

The Union informed students that it had also secured it’s investors in people silver award and investors in diversity award.

With the upcoming relocation of LiverpoolSU out of the Haigh building and into the John Foster building finally being confirmed, LiverpoolSU will be closer than ever to where the larger student population is.

Although LiverpoolSU did see a financial deficit last year it was to be expected and all of the good work that has been done over the last 12 months has set the Union up to really progress in the right direction next year.
