About Us

A group for people who enjoy horse riding, or would like to learn to ride a horse.

Welcome to LJMU Equestrian club! Our club is calling to all you budding horse riders joining Liverpool John Moores, whether you have ridden for years or never sat on a horse before, we welcome you and cater to all abilities.

Teams train every week, while other members of the club also have the opportunity to ride once a week. Lessons are very fun filled, including fun activities and end of term games. We try to ensure that lessons alternate between flatwork and jumping each week, giving us variety throughout the year. We travel to the riding school together either by car or train, and there is often the opportunity to watch other lessons, which is great to give beginners goals to aim towards.

In previous years we were able to enter both an A and B team into BUCS leagues, with B team qualifying for regionals and one of our girls from A team also qualifying for regionals individually. This year we aim to enter both teams again into BUCS leagues and hopefully improve our overall final positions for both. We will also be running C team for another year and hope to keep entering friendly competitions with other local university developmental teams.

This year we hope to carry out more friendly competitions and events for everyone. This includes Polo lessons, race days and fun gymkhanas.

Throughout the year we will also have opportunities for Hacks and Beach Rides

Key Information

We meet weekly for lessons and have various times/days to book onto. Luckily we have multiple lesson slots meaning that you will always be in a lesson suited to your own ability and should never feel uncomfortable with the content of the lessons. These lessons will usually be back to back which will allow everyone to watch and support each other during lessons! Weekend lessons will also be available.

Our weekly lessons and team competitions take place at Wirral Riding Centre which is a BHS approved riding school and is also a very reputable RDA centre. They have a wonderful selection of horses including some very cheeky characters that I’m sure you will all fall in love with.

Why You Should Join Us

There’s no better way to make friends at university than to join a Sports Team, Club or Society, and what better club to join than Equestrian? Everyone is more than welcome to join us, we welcome any one with an interest in horses from beginners to advanced riders. We also like to stress that although horse riding may appear to be an expensive hobby/sport our lessons are available at a reduced cost as students, so you should not be put off by the expense.

A large part of this club is ensuring that everyone feels welcome and creating lifelong friendships within it! Throughout the year there will be many opportunities to join in social events. We also hope to go on some equestrian trips, including an equestrian riding break and the LJMU tour in Spain.  We have allocated Social Secretary’s that will ensure you really will have the time of your lives!

All current members have had a fantastic year with LJMU Equestrian and we are hoping to expand this club with so many new members in 2019-2020. Come down to the fresher’s fair to chat with us, meet a few of the current members and to sign up for more information.
