About Our Group

LJMU Dance Team offers weekly classes in six main dance styles, hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical and contemporary. We welcome everyone regardless of ability and have members ranging from professional dancers to those who just love a boogie on a night out! Our own club members run the classes and teach routines in preparation for various performance opportunities throughout the academic year.

LJMU Dance Team aims to partake in at least two university dance competitions a year, which usually fall during the months of February and March. Our team will play host to and also travel to compete with universities across the country and we are delighted that this year the Liverpool Lighthouse will be host to our dance competition for the third year running. These competitions do not only provide a great opportunity for our dancers to perform in a competitive but fun environment, but also enable a true team spirit to grow within LJMU Dance Team.

For those who don't want to compete do not worry! Non-competitive classes will be run each week for those who just want to come for a dance and a bit of exercise every now and again.

Key Information

Classes are held in the Activities Room in the basement of the John Foster building on Mount Pleasant and will run on a weekly basis and times will vary depending on what styles you choose to participate in.

Why You Should Join Us?

We cannot wait to welcome new members into the club and for anyone who loves to dance or wants to try something new, the Dance club is the place to be! We ensure that all our members make great friendships during their time with us, and our regular socials are a fantastic way for you to form bonds with your fellow dancers outside of the dance studio. Our socials are mostly on Wednesday nights at Liverpool’s famous Concert Square where we drink, play games and dance – a lot! However, for those who are not big drinkers fear not, socials can vary from trampoline parks to a social meal out for a chance to get to know you all better! During Easter break we provide our members with the opportunity to go away on Sports Tour, where you can enjoy a week of laughter away in the sun with all your team mates and make memories that will never be forgotten!

We understand competing in front of people can be daunting, especially in dance, so if you just want to dance for fun you can do. This year the Dance club are offering fun casual classes in addition to our competition classes with the hope of providing those who do not want to compete, the opportunity to attend weekly sessions of different dance styles with no pressure. It is a fun way to exercise where you can learn some new styles and then party with us after!

In 2016 we won the Society of the Year and we would love the opportunity to be nominated in the club category next year and you can be part of this! With each year of dance getting bigger and better, we only hope to improve and give you the best university experience with us - so sign up and join our dance family!!
