Cheerleading is a competitive and social team sport which incorporates different elements such as stunting, tumbling and jumps and dance.
JMSU Jets is the Cheerleading Society at LJMU and we are currently a team of 55 students. This included 3 teams: a level 2 all-girl competitive team, an all-girl small pom (competitive dance) and a level 1 coed development team. We are looking for both males and females to compete with us for the 2019/20 season or simply come along to learn the basics of cheerleading and have some fun!
Our competitive teams usually compete in 2/3 national competitions per year against other teams across the country, including the University National Championships. For the year 2018/2019 we also performed at the Star Spirit Cheer and Dance Showcase in February. With the help of our coaches at Star Spirit Cheer and Dance, we were able to put out our level 2 Cheer and Small pom at Legacy Cheer and Dance Nationals, with both teams achieving national champions, taking home the first-place trophies!
For the new year we plan to have one competitive team and one recreational team with the chance to perform at showcase/performances across the year, as well as a competitive Pom team. We are a mixture of 1st, 2nd and 3rdyear students as well as students furthering their education with postgraduate courses. We encourage all abilities to come forward to join our squad. Though Cheerleading is a physically demanding sport, it is very enjoyable to take part as a team while building great friendships within the group.
