LJMU student highlights Co-op’s Pride

Monday 15-07-2019 - 13:20

We’re extremely proud that Cat Strickson, a PHD student at LJMU and Trans Rep of the LGBTQA+ Society is the face of the Co-op’s current LGBT+ campaign.

The Co-op's campaign goes 'beyond the rainbows and fine words' by supporting LGBT+ causes that really make a difference to the community. Currently when you buy Co-op branded products, 1% of the money goes to causes such as Liverpool City Region Pride.

We're so proud and excited to see Cat representing and celebrating the transgender community in such a high-profile campaign. You can join Cat, our LGBTQA+ Society and LJMU students at Liverpool Pride on Saturday 27th July!

We’re also hosting a Pride Banner Making Workshop on Wednesday 24th July which all are welcome to attend.

I’m Cat and I support Liverpool City Region Pride, one of the of LGBT+ causes which benefit from Co-op’s Local Community Fund.

Liverpool City Region Pride has given me the chance to meet people like me and to celebrate Pride with them. At a time when I was early in my transition and often faced harassment in the street, it was really important to find people who understood what I was going through and wouldn’t turn away at the sight of me. At Liverpool City Region Pride I found a community that embraced me and sought out my company, it helped give me perspective and keep me sane through some of the darkest times in my life.

Co-op’s support for local charities, like Liverpool City Region Pride, makes a big impact on people in the area. Thanks to funding and support, Liverpool City Region Pride stands as a beacon across the North West, to those scared to come out, those depressed and at risk, and those who struggle to accept that there is hope, that the world will come around to us, and embrace us as people of equal value.
